Lent is a special time of the year where Christians prepare for the celebration of Easter with forty days of prayer and fasting. The model in all of this is Jesus who spent forty days in the Judean wilderness, and although we cannot hop over to the Holy Land and presume to do the same we can nevertheless use this time for personal renewal. There are plenty of things to do this Lent in this parish and our neighbouring churches in the benefice locality.
There are two study groups that meet on Wednesdays. The afternoon group meets at the church in Salcombe at 2pm for an hour and half. Another group meets at St Peter's House in Malborough (www.stpetersfoundation.org) at 7pm for the same period. Both groups are looking at the book Walk the Extra Mile which was written by Father Daniel and explores the basic milestone for living to a Christian rule of life.
Soup lunches in aid of the Shekinah Mission for the homeless are on offer on Wednesdays at 12.30pm during Lent. At Malborough Church, a similar arrangement is available at noon in the meeting room.
At Salcombe Church midday prayers are said in the side chapel by a group of volunteers. Please feel free to come and join us for 10 minutes of quiet reflection and reading.
